THANKYOUUUU thankyou so much for posting this, i was scared it was just me. i can rest assured that everyone is missing out, not just me ha. let us know when it comes back!
oh thank you! I was hoping last night you might do this and so glad I'm not the only experiencing an inability to use the app. I too thought it was "just me" until I noticed no one was posting anything new :(
This has never happened before so everybody is worried that they might just cancel the app! I hope that's not going to happen. I'll let you know once it's up again!
It *appears* the the main Shockwave file located at "http://cdn.looklet.com/flash/looklet.swf?rev=113" is having issues accessing needed component files from "http://files.looklet.com" possibly due to missing files. It also *appears* that the Shockwave app does not have user error trapping turned on, so it never times out. Just an educated guess, really don't have the time to analyze the entire data stream. Looks like something got deleted (like "Isolde" graphics possibly?) and the SWF module will not enter interactive mode until it has all graphics installed in browser cache. Why this has not been noticed by Looklet staff by now is puzzling, to say the least.
From what little I know about their operation, it looks like there are many people who are using a special Photoshop plug-in to access raw .psd images of new item photographs. These .psd images are then processed to extract specific clothes and they get "cleaned up" and tested on the different basic model views (front, back, portrait), and then uploaded to the Looklet fileserver. If you read my comment above (12/13/11, 10:03 PM), new "items" can still be added (and deleted) from the fileserver without the actual SWF application actually working properly. Hopefully the problem is just something simple like someone accidentally deleting one or more necessary resource files. Another concern is that Looklet staff seems to have dropped off the face of the earth after November 7th. Nothing posted on Twitter after that date, No "Look of the Day", "Magazine", "News" or "Inspiration" entries after that date either. The other stuff is handled automatically by scripts and really doesn't need human intervention.
This is so true about the Looklet staff dissapearing from the face of the earth. I posted a comment about the site being down on the Looklet facebook page and it got deleted. So I guess they are still there but they stopped communication with us.
